October 14, 1925 - October 25, 2006

Rita B. Garfinkel, age 81, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2006. Rita, daughter of Frances & Herbert Beerman was born in New York City and graduated with honors from Hunter College. Rita moved to Jacksonville in 1954 and taught Spanish & Latin for many years at Wolfson High School. Rita served as Chairman of the Foreign Language Department and participated on the Southern States Evaluation Team.

Predeceased in death by her husband, Martin S. Garfinkel, Rita is survived by her daughter, Myrna Hanson (Karl); granddaughter, Paige Beeler; brother, Joseph Beerman (Andrea) and nephew, Eric Beerman. Rita was an avid bridge player, active in Brandeis University National Women's Club and a member of Congregation Ahavath Chesed. There will be fond memories of Rita to be recalled & cherished by her family and many friends. A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Monday, October 30, 2006 at the Congregation Ahavath Chesed. A reception will be held at Rita's home following the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to a charitable organization in Rita's name. Arrangements are by Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Avenue.
