Joe Sexton (Teacher)

Joseph E. Sexton, 87, was born in Rocky Mount, NC but has lived in Jacksonville with his late wife, Janet, late daughter, Darleen and late son, Randy, since 1957. He died on February 21, 2018 in Jacksonville. He received his B.S. Degree from East Carolina University and his M.S. Degree from Florida State University. Joe was in the Air Force from 1951 to 1954 and served in the Korean War. He taught at Landon and Wolfson Senior High Schools until his retirement in 1992. Joe coached golf and was an assistant football coach. He wrote three books, mostly used in teaching high school business courses. Joe and his late wife, Janet, enjoyed golf, fishing and country Western dancing. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd. N., Jacksonville, FL 32225. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Chapel Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257. HARDAGE-GIDDENS CHAPEL HILLS FUNERAL HOME, 850 St. Johns Bluff Road North, is serving the family.

Janet Lynne Gable (Cull)

Mr. Sexton was such a good business math and typing teacher. I ended up homeschooling our kids, and often thought of how I would love those practice sets we used in business math for our kids. I thought that everyone should learn what he taught us so well! He really was a decent, nice man.
