Patty Jennings (Teacher) VIEW PROFILE

Patricia Fickes Jennings Hart ~ June 8, 1918 to July 26, 2017 ~ Precious Mother, Gram Gram, Friend passed on while under the care of Hospice and her loving family, at age 99. She is predeceased by her husband of forty five years, Donavin Doit Jennings, and her husband, Richard Hart who died in 2001. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Jennings (Gerald Hastings); two sons, Thomas Donavin Jennings (Brenda Hale) and Jonathan D. Jennings, Sr.(Peggy Harrell); three grandchildren, Donavin Jennings, Laurian Jennings, Jonathan Jennings, Jr.(Shannon Atchley); and three great-grandchildren, Jage, Jaks and Joby. Also, five step-children and numerous step grand and great grandchildren from her marriage in her 80’s to Rich Hart of Willoughby, Ohio – a childhood friend.

Patty was a long time member of Lakewood United Methodist Church – she participated in many church activities including the Ann Belote Class, Young at Heart, the United Methodist Women and Seniors on a Mission as well as being a member of AAUW-American Association of University Women- and the Sasanqua Garden Circle. An accomplished scholar and athlete in her youth – she graduated from Miami of Ohio – she held many titles for her competitions in track and field events and was inducted into the Ohio Sports Hall of Fame for her award winning accomplishments. After retiring from a long teaching career at Grace Chapel, DuPont High School, Wolfson High School, Ribault High School and John E. Ford she volunteered in the Lakewood UMC office and with the children’s programs and remained active, alert and independent until suffering a stroke in January 2017. She was a faith filled woman, a true lady with impeccable manners and proper demeanor. She was the guiding light of her family and took great joy in their accomplishments large and small. She never complained, was always smiling and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Lakewood United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 5, 2017. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Community Hospice and Palliative Care or Lakewood United Methodist Church.
