Ruth Bishop (Teacher)

Ruth Margaret Smith Bishop, 79, years of age of Jacksonville, Florida, died Thursday December 6, 2001 at home from a lengthy illness. Ruth was born in Savannah, Georgia on January 20, 1922. She moved to Jacksonville as a small child and graduated from Landon High School in 1939. Ruth received her Bachelor of Education degree from Florida State College for women in 1943 and completed her Masters degree at the University of Florida. Ruth taught at many Duval County Schools including Jackson, Dupont and Wolfson, and retired as a elementary resource teacher. She also taught swimming at Sans Souci for many years. She loved sports and spending time at her Lake House in Keystone Heights with friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.D. Smith Sr., sister, Mildred Smith Robinson, and brother A.D. Smith Jr. Survivors include 3 sons, Hank (Judie), Ted (Susan) and Carlin; 4 grandchildren, Hal, Tyson, Teaha and Ellie; her sister-in-law; three nieces and many friends. A memorial service will be held in Ruths honor on Friday, December 14th at 10:00 a.m. at Swaim Memorial Methodist Church in San Marco, 1620 Naldo Ave., Jacksonville, Florida 32207. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Ruths beloved church, Swaim Memorial Methodist Church in San Marco. Arrangements by HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, HENDRICKS AVE.
