Emma Mae Barnes (Curtis) VIEW PROFILE

Emma Mae Barnes Curtis, 63 years old, passed away on Nov 5, 2014 at Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Florida 32257. She was born on September 14, 1951 in Vienna (Dooly County) Georgia to the late John Henry Barnes and the late Odessa Leary Barnes. Emma was the second child in a family of nine children. The family moved from Georgia in the late 1950's to Jacksonville, Florida and she attended Douglas Anderson and was a member of the Class of 1969 and graduated from Samuel W. Wolfson High School in 1969. Emma was raised in a Christian Home and attended Friendship Baptist Church most of her life. Emma worked at Main Branch of Jacksonville Public Library, Attorney Griffin Office, Petro Chemical Company and the City of Jacksonville. She was committed to her work and a passion for computers, family and friends. Emma was preceded in death by her mother, Odessa Leary Barnes (1977), her father, John Henry Barnes (1998), brother, John Henry Barnes, Jr. (1954), husband, Bobby J. Woodard, Sr. (1981), husband, Grayland Curtis (1988) and sister, Annette Barnes (2008). Emma is survived by five children: Toney L. Woodard, Bobby J. Woodard, Jr. (Erika), Christopher L. Woodard, Sabrina Jones-Griffin (Andre) and Sidney Jones and their father, Sidney Jones; 8 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Johnney Mae Eason (David), Mrs. Mary Thomas (Carl), Mrs. Louise Belcher (Curtis) and Mrs. Ocie Jenkins (William); two brothers, Rev. Henry L. Barnes (Mary) and Mr. Nathan Barnes; uncle, Mr. Gus Barnes (Annie Lee); two aunts, Mrs. Louise Brown and Mrs. Elizabeth Barnes; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family is deeply grateful for the out pouring of love, prayers and support in many heartfelt forms to many people to name individually, but including Community Hospice (Sunbeam Road), Church Members (Friendship Baptist), Family and Family Friends - either through prayer and /or visits, eve acts of kindness through total strangers. A special thanks goes out to Regina Washington (After Care Nurse) and Chaplain at Signature Health Care. This is our tribute to her memory, which will be carried on in the legacy of love which is now each of us the lives she formed and touched by her love. Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at her church. Visitations of friends at the mortuary on Friday from 5:00-8:00p.m. and in the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service.
