Moved to South Carolina in 1979.
Moved back to Jacksonville in 1984.
Returned to South Carolina in 1990.
Worked for an agricultural company 1990-2001.
Worked for a hazardous waste company 2001-2003.
Working in retail since 2005.

My life over the years has been fairly simple. Other than my two divorces, I have only experienced one major set-back, if you want to call it that. I was laid off from my job with the argicultural company in 2001, which I had been with for 11 years, but was fortunate to find another position in the same field of work just a month later. Then in 2003 I was laid off from that company. I was on unemployment for 9 months with no luck what-so-ever in finding work. After my unemployment ran out I picked up a couple of small part time jobs making very little money....not even enough to pay my bills, much less my living expenses. During that time I experienced problems with remembering things. My children thought it was unusual and kept wanting me to see a doctor. Well, with no money, no insurance and no job, I just could not afford to do that. But, on June 2, 2005 I was taken to the hospital and it was discovered that I had a mass in my head. It was called a menengeoma (a slow growing non-cancerous tumor). My family was told that because of the size of the tumor that it had been growing for 10 to 15 years. It got to the point that it was putting pressure on my brain, which was causing the memory loss. I was sent to MUSC in Charleston, SC where I underwent 7 hours of surgery. I came out with flying colors and 2 months to the day from surgery I obtained the position that I still currently have. I had a lot of people praying for me and I am a true believer that prayers do work.

I have currently been at my position since August, 2010. This past year brought many changes. My ex-husband (the father of my four sons) passed away March 7, 2011 at the young age of 56. I was told by several sources that I could file social security through the "Widow, Widower, Divorced Spouse Survivor Benefits" program. It's an interesting program that I am sure a lot of people do not know about. Checked into the program and was able to start drawing Social Security on his benefits this past May. So by doing this, as of the beginning 2012, I dropped down to part time at my work and am planning to enjoy some days off to spend with friends and family.

In January 2013 I lost my Mother. As a result of that, my Father sold his home in Jacksonville and moved to Hilliard to live with my brother. A few months later we had a conversation about my Dad wanting me out of the mobile home I was living in and buying a house. Well, in October of 2014, the decision was made for my Dad to move up here with me and together we bought a wonderful home and I was able to sell my mobile home. It has been great having him here and at 93 he is still very active and we do a lot of things together and go a lot of places.

School Story:

Since I did not move to the southside of town until the summer of 1962 (just before starting 6th grade), I did not get to know a lot of people until my junior high and senior high school days. I attended Kings Trail Elementary (which I think was previously called South San Jose Elementary), and then for 7th grade I, with the rest of the kids in my area, was bused to a school in San Marco (can't for the life of me remember the name of that school), for 8th and 9th grade I went to duPont and then 10-12 I went to Wolfson. The best thing I remember about my high school years were mostly in my senior year. I decided to ask Bill Welch to walk with me at graduation on the first day of school. He said he would. We were put in alphabetical order by the girls last name but he made mention that he wanted to change his last name to Ardvark because he was tired of always being at the end of the line. Towards the end of our senior year, Bill asked me to the Prom and we had a wonderful time. My mother worked for an exclusive womans dress shop in San Marco and my dress was ordered from New York. When we were at the Prom, I had turned around to speak to someone and when I came back to Bill, there was a girl sitting there talking to him that had on the exact same dress as mine.....was a little shocked.

My high school years were wonderful but when I got married the first time I lost contact with a lot of my high school friends. I had a husband who had a very jealous streak in him and he cut me off from the world....that's why we did not stay together very long.

I am looking forward to this reunion and seeing all my classmates.

Hi Sydney. Was just looking through the Wolfson site and saw that you had put a message on here. Not sure if you remember me. We sat together at the 30 year reunion when it was at St. Augustine. I went to the 40 year reunion but was not sure if you were at that one or not. Saw the message about the gathering that the class of 70 is having on September 19th but I will not be able to make that one. Had planned a trip to Jacksonville this coming weekend but realized I have several grandchildren that have birthdays this month and one of the parties is on the 29th so won't be able to go. You mentioned trying to get to Jacksonville for the gathering on the 13th at the landing. Not sure I heard about that one. Anyway, hope you are well and would love to chat sometime.
