Helen (Candy) Walker Cooper of Huntersville, N.C. passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013 after a valiant fight with lung cancer. Candy was the daughter of Helen and Tom Walker and was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida until she moved to North Carolina in 2001. She was a graduate of Wolfson High School Class of '69. Candy is survived by her 2 sons, John Hamilton (Calif.) and Travis Cooper (Jacksonville) and a brother, Tommy Walker (Jacksonville). A brief memorial service will be held Thursday, June 6, at 11:00 AM at Lakewood United Methodist Church Chapel on San Jose Blvd. If desired, memorial donations in Candy's name may be made to the Community Hospice of N.E. Florida at 4266 Sunbeam Rd. Jax. Fl. 32257 Arrangements and care under direction of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home 4115 Hendricks Ave. Jacksonville, FL 32207.

Oh my goodness, how did I miss this? And she lived 45 minutes down the road from me, and I never knew that! I have so many memories of Candy from jr. high, and I've thought of her so often. I'm sorry to hear that she has passed, and I never had the chance to re-acquaint! I hope and pray that her family are blessed with full, satisfying lives and closeness.

I loved my wonderful friend, Candy Walker. Her mother had passed away before I knew Candy. I have fond memories of visiting her and her kind father at some apartments near Wolfson. I could ride my bike to her house. The apartments had a pool with a corner set of steps and an aluminum rail leading down the middle of these steps.
One Saturday we were hanging out on the steps. Candy had rollers in her hair and she was sitting on the rail. Somehow she slipped and hit her head. Her rollers were crushed, but her head was not hurt. We thought that was a phenomenon.
She always had a smile on her face.
