In Memory

Cy Mitchell Boatwright

Cy Mitchell Boatwright passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, April 4, 2021, in the McGraw Community Hospice Center for Care. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on August 7, 1951, to Minnie and Archie Boatwright, of blessed memory. He was predeceased by his beautiful wife of 30 years, Jeanette. He is survived by sisters Cynthia Disher, Harriett Kaplan (Sheldon), and Cathy Wilensky (Dan), his daughters, Tiffany Adams (Jason) and Robin Smedberg (Roger), his grandchildren Jillian (Brittany), William (Danielle), JonCarl, Chelsea and Jonathan and many loving nieces and nephews and cousins.
Mitch was a fun loving, hard-working individual who had friends everywhere – he knew no strangers. He loved his home on the Intracoastal where he lived with Jeanette until her death. He spent his last few years in the home of his daughter, Robin and family, who lovingly cared for him during his post-stroke years.
The success of his business was due not only to the quality of work he produced and his strong work ethic, but also his personable nature and care for his clients. His kindness to others, and his sweet, contagious smile will be sorely missed.
Fondly referred to as "Poppy" by his grandchildren, he and Jeanette loved hosting boat parades on their dock on the Intracoastal, and Fourth of July and New Year's Eve celebrations for his family and friends with fireworks, food, and lots of fun.
As a young boy, Mitch became a consummate surfer and traveled to various surfing locations as far away as Costa Rica, a country he truly loved. He became known as "King Roscoe" to his surfing friends in Jacksonville Beach with whom he continued surfing into his late 60s.
"We will love and miss you always… And we will cherish your memory… With love, your loving family and friends".
A memorial service was held at the Jacksonville Jewish Center on April 7, 2021. Donations in Mitchell's memory may be made to the Jacksonville Jewish Center or the Jewish Community Alliance.

Like Bruce, I went to elementary school with Mitch. I'm glad to read he led such a happy life! I remember him as a kind, friendly, and most happy kid.
