John J. Atkins,15, of 3637 Via de la Reina, died suddenly Wednesday in Daytona Beach. Young Atkins was a student at Wolfson High School and a member of San Jose Catholic Church. Survivors include his stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Steve N. Guidry of Jacksonville; his stepmother and father, Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Atkins of Houma, La,; his maternal gradparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Caldwell of Opelousas, La.; brother, Richard Atkins of Jacksonville; half sister, Janice Guidry; and 5 half brothers, Thomas, Steve Jr, Paul, Pierre, and David Guidry, all of Jacksonville, Fla. The roary was recited on 8 p.m. Wednesday evening in Hardage and Sons Southside Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at San Jose Catholic Church at 8:30 a.m. Thursday by Father J.B. Caverly. Following services, the body will be forwarded to Houma, La. for interment. The family asks that flowers be omitted and donations be made to a favorite charity.

Thomas Craig [Tom] Stallworth
I remember John well. He moved to Southside when we in junior high at DuPont. He was such a friendly and outgoing person. He died in a freak electrical accident during the summer. I have always wondered what he might have experienced and accomplished had his life not be cut short at age 15.
